Shock absorbers (suspension forks) are important parts that reduce vibrations for the vehicle when encountering potholes or bad roads, helping the vehicle and your trip to operate smoothly. Therefore, when the driver discovers it, the shock absorbers are quite damaged and cost a lot to replace or repair. If you encounter one of the following cases, Viha Vietnam recommends that you bring your vehicle to a motorbike repair center immediately!
1. Shock absorbers make noises
During operation, the vehicle makes a “creaking” sound, which is the first sign that the shock absorber system has a problem. The shock absorber tube may be distorted, the spring is rusty, rubbing against the sleeve and cylinder body. For female vehicles using shock absorbers, the front bushing may be worn, dry of oil, or worse, the hydraulic rod may be bent due to impact or strong vibration.
To fix this, remove the shock absorber and straighten the hydraulic rod with a specialized tool. We should take the car to a trusted shop. Because this part is very easy to swap. If the spring is from Thailand but the hydraulic rod is from China, the quality of the entire shock absorber system is only equal to Chinese goods.
2. Steering wheel deviation
When the car is fully loaded, the car sags on one side with an unbalanced steering wheel. This is a sign that the car may have a broken spring on one side (on the low side) or the springs on both sides have uneven stiffness or a bent piston rod. Depending on the cause, replace the spring or straighten the piston rod.
3. Shock absorber oil leakage
There is wet oil rust at the end of the shock absorber body or when the car goes over potholes, it makes a rattling sound and feels bouncy. This is a sign that the shock absorber on the car has a loose seal, leaking hydraulic rod oil.
With front shock absorbers, replacing the seal and oil is easier because the piston and cylinder are detachable. It is necessary to add the correct type and amount of shock absorber oil. If after changing the oil, the shock absorber is too hard, it means that the amount of oil has exceeded the specified level, and it is necessary to drain the oil through the drain screw at the bottom of the shock absorber.
4. How to fix
If you encounter one of the above errors, find a reputable motorcycle repair center and choose a good quality shock absorber.
A good motorcycle shock absorber is one where the piston rod surface must be shiny throughout its length, the piston rod hole on the cylinder must not have horizontal play, and when pulled out or pressed in, there must be no oil film on the rod surface. To keep the shock absorber rod vertical, the difference in feeling between pressing in and pulling out should be as large as possible.
You need to replace your motorcycle shock absorber immediately if you encounter the following symptoms!
